Speaking of Ricky Martin, the 38 year old Latin-American pop artist from Puerto Rico just came out of the closet today, on 29th March 2010. I can't say that I'm shocked because there have been rumors circulating since 2000 about his sexuality. When asked if he was gay or not, 29 year old Martin remained silent. Almost ten years later, the man has decided it's time the world stops speculating and gets it's just desserts. The reason I am really shocked is because, a man of his position and influence dared to take such a bold step.
He's a single dad to twin sons that were born via surrogacy in 2008. Nobody knows who is the birth mother, but everybody knows how adorable his sons happen to be, christened Matteo and Valentino. You can see the very happy daddy with his babies here.
I just read the interview that hit the WWW a few minutes ago and this part struck out to me the most. The singer-songwriter says;
"Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment. These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that this kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed ... I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man. I am very blessed to be who I am,"
I'd be lying if I say I disagree. Ricky Martin's coming could possibly be a the push in the right direction needed for people to embrace who they truly are, and for other people to embrace them as well. Homosexuality is not a question that needs an answer. It's a truth than needs to be accepted. You can check out the rest of the interview here.
My heartiest congratulations to sugar daddy, Ricky Martin! We, the homos, love you!
